Celebrity Zumba

3/29/2013

Zumba is quite possibly the biggest dance / fitness phenomenon the world has ever seen. More than 14 million people of all shapes, sizes and ages take weekly Zumba classes in over 140,000 locations across more than 150 countries.

Of course, where there's a trend there's a celeb. From A List to Z list, celebrities have been jumping on the Zumba bandwagon since it bega, their involvement often contributing to its popularity. Jennifer Lopez and Kirstie Alley are known to take Zumba classes as part of their workout routines, while even Jackie Chan has been caught on video while performing the exercises.
More celebrity Zumba fans include....
Ricky Martin
Ricky is instantly recognisable as one of the figureheads of the Latin pop explosion in recent years. With his high energy stage routines, he's in seriously good shape and apparently Zumba can take part of the credit for this. It’s also believed that he spent about US$10,000 on 200 Zumba DVDs to give to family and friends.
Jennifer Lopez
The Latina beauty has dance in her blood, making Zumba a natural choice for any fitness regime she embarks on. She recently said, “As women, we tend to give away a lot. We take care of a lot of people, and we can't forget to take care of ourselves. If that means once a week you're going to go off without the kids or without anybody and just go shoe shopping — well, that's me, because I love shoes — or get a facial even if your sister thinks that's selfish, or join a Zumba class, or take a painting class, or whatever, you've just got to do it".
Madonna
The ageless Material Girl has followed a number fitness and spiritual regimens throughout her long career and although her strict regimen probably includes a lot more than just a Zumba class, she's long been a supporter of dancing as a workout. It's no surprise therefore that Zumba classes are offered at Madonna’s Hard Candy gyms (located in Mexico).
Michelle Obama
The US' first lady is also an exercise enthusiast and Zumba is an integral part of her fitness routine. She was recently quoted as saying: "I did a Zumba class over vacation. That was a lot of fun". She also incorporated Zumba routines into her Get Moving campaign which took place on the White House’s lawn. Marlene Jacks, from Intercultural Affairs Associate also a Latin and Caribbean music enthusiast, has said: “Our first lady, Michelle Obama, has terrific arms and things, but you know, that’s her secret—she does Zumba”.
Pitbull & Wyclef Jean
“The reason that Zumba and the Pitbull movement live together is because they pull from the same” Puerto Rican rapper Pitbull said on the red carpet in Zumba Convention in Orlando, FL in 2011.
Haitian American musician Wyclef Jean is also a big Zumba fan and is not ashamed to say “I do Zumba, period. With music there’s absolutely no boundaries. The coolest thing for me was singing the story of my new record, and to see 7,000 instructors moving to a Wyclef record in sync was incredible.”
A worldwide phenomenon with the endorsement of some of the planet's hottest celebrities; it looks like Zumba is here to stay.
